History
In early 1930's, Mrs. Chaney Laughlin had an elderly neighbor who became ill and needed help. Mrs. Laughlin organized a group of friends to provide that care. Eventually they evolved into the Benevolent Women's Club. The Benevolent Women's Club raised money for DePugh Medical Clinic. Initially the clinic provided medical and dental care to Winter Park's community.
The community noted a continued need for care of the elderly after the clinic opened. The lack of care motivated the Board of Directors along with Mrs. Laughlin and decided to return to its original mission of care for the elderly and the sick. In 1954, Mary Lee DePugh Nursing Home was conceived. It admitted the first resident January 16, 1956.
Throughout the years, the facility has grown from 28 to 40 beds. It offers skilled nursing care including rehabilitation therapy to its residents. DePugh Nursing Center still operates on its original site at 550 W. Morse Boulevard in Winter Park. In May 2003, it completed a $2 million renovation and continues to care for the community's elderly of all races.
